Riemersma Releases 2nd TV Ad

Urges Competitors to Acknowledge MBT was a Mistake

Holland, MI – Today the Jay Riemersma for Congress campaign released its second television ad of the campaign. The text is as follows:

“I’m Jay Riemersma, and I’m running for Congress. One big reason is taxes. It’s bad enough when the Democrats promise they will raise our taxes and then do everything they can to keep their promise. Even worse are Republicans who promise to oppose tax increases and then break their promise, like they did with the Michigan Business Tax. I signed a pledge to oppose any new tax increases. And believe me, it’s a promise I’ll keep. I’m Jay Riemersma, a conservative and a tax fighter, and I approved this message.”

Riemersma released this statement regarding the ad:

“I applaud Congressman Hoekstra for his support of repealing the Michigan Business Tax and join him in making it one of the top issues of the 2010 campaign. The MBT simply has to go.

The Obama Administration is on a spending spree and eventually those bills are going to come due. Frankly, it’s the same choice that faced Michigan lawmakers when they passed the MBT: cut spending or increase taxes. I pledge to oppose any and all tax increases and urge the other candidates running for Congress to acknowledge their votes in favor of the MBT were mistakes.”

Representative Dave Agema released this statement regarding the ad:

“I served with two of Jay’s primary opponents in the Michigan Legislature. They both caved in to the Granholm administration and voted for the worst tax in Michigan history, the Michigan Business Tax (MBT). That tax made us one of the least business friendly states in the nation and has cost us jobs. I strongly endorse Jay Riemersma and urge my constituents and voters throughout West Michigan to join me in supporting Jay, and sending strong, conservative leadership to oppose tax increases to Congress.”

West Michigan Business Leaders previously released the following statements on the MBT:

“The MBT is unfair to small business and could be the worst tax in the country. It should never have passed the Michigan legislature,” said Ambassador Peter Secchia. “West Michigan job providers need to unite behind Jay Riemersma so that the 2nd district has a Congressman who will not raise taxes when he gets to Washington DC.”

“We need a Congressman who will fight for sound economic decisions and the creation of more jobs in our state and country,” said Dick Haworth. “Jay Riemersma will not buckle under pressure to raise taxes to pay for more government expansions when our need is for less government that is more efficient.”

“Jay Riemersma has the leadership qualities we need in our next Congressman, and I believe he’ll make a positive impact for our values from his first day in office,” added Jim VanderKolk. “Jay has been a leader throughout his career at Zeeland High School, at the University of Michigan, in the NFL, at Family Research Council, and he will be a leader for West Michigan in Washington DC.”

Additional business leaders endorsing Riemersma include: John Canepa, Keith Brophy, Jack DeWitt, Luciano Hernandez, David Hooker, Joel Langlois, Arlyn Lanting, Dave Mehney, Dan Pfeiffer, Bob Fenton, Rob Zeldenrust, and Mike Teeter.

Bill Huizenga and Wayne Kuipers both voted in favor of the Michigan Business Tax. For more information please visit: http://www.michigancapitolconfidential.com/11469.
